A year had past since Doug had left his girlfriend and child and he never called back. Jan had decided it was time she went on with her life and the first step would be to win back her self-esteem. She had gained quite some weight during her pregnancy and never felt the urge to lose it again, but, she said to herself, who would want a fat single mother? So Jan started a diet and an exercise regime to regain her formall figure.

Pretty quick she was back in shape and her make-over was not left unnoticed. Gary, whose baby was about Doug’s age, still came over regularly. They watched TV together and talked, and it was good to have such a close friend, even tough Jan felt there was something more behind all of this. Oh well, Gary was a good man and Jan felt safe havind him around.
Before she knew it, it was time for Douglas’ 2nd birthday. It was just Gary, the baby and she, but it felt festive and a major change. Her baby was a toddler now.

That night, when she had put Douglas to rest, Jan picked up a bottle of wine and sat down next to Gary. The poor bloke looked awfull, Déborah had told him she wanted another baby, but he was fine with just one child. He felt they had to work out their problems before adding to their family, she tought the baby would solve everything. He even confessed to Jan that he wasn’t sure he still loved his wife, she had changed so much since their first was born, she was a completely different woman.
“You know Jan, you kind of remind me of her, the way she was” Gary said, after the second bottle had been opened. He looked at Jan with eyes full of love, not for her, but for the woman he saw, his wife, but Jan, having been alone for so long and longing for some affection only leaned forward, waiting for the inevitable to happen. Gary kissed her.

That kiss wasn’t the last one and in the following years, Jan became Gary’s mistress. She knew he only loved her because she reminded him of his wife, the way she was before she got all cold, but she let it happen, thinking it was better than nothing. Young Douglas knew Gary spent the night at their place sometimes, but being only a toddler, he didn’t seek anything behind it.
But toddlers do grow up, and it was time for his fifth birthday, his big boy day.

He was a handsome boy and resembled his father quite a bit. He did so much, Jan started thinking about Doug, the boy needed a father now, someone to go camping with, play ball in the back yard, talk to about girls and boy-stuff. So she decided to take her chance.
After the woohoo that usually took place when Gary came around, Jan gave him the ultimatum she had prepared.

Either he was going to leave Déborah and permanently move in with her so her boy could have a father and she could have someone the rely on, or they were trough. She had to find something more structural than this, she had feelings as well.
Jan never tought Gary would actually leave his wife, but when he got up and said that could never happen, she felt disappointed anyway. Déborah was pregnant again, they had worked things out a few weeks ago and were more in love than ever. He had meant to tell Jan, but just never found a way, but now he had to.
Gary left early that night, and Jan was once more alone.
Will Jan find love again? Will Douglas have a roll in the life of his firs-born son? Or will all go their seperate ways??

Niiiiiiice update! It’s nice to see how a potential NPC’s life would turn out after they’re no longer an NPC. Hehe.
Interesting life she’s leading. Deadbeat boyfriend, mistress … what’s next?
Great story!

Hi Yicke! I really enjoyed reading this update. I like the single mom angle; it’s different from most other Sims stories. I can tell you’ve put a lot of work into this, and I can’t wait to see what happens next! Keep up the great work!

@ anjel: This is the first one I’ve played, but in the next generation which I’m playing right now, there is another one I’m interested in, maybe I’ll play that one trough his/her life as well…
@Jen: thank you for the compliment, it means a lot coming from the simmer with the most original idea’s on the web!! I start to like my non-challenge families better, since I can do a lot more with them than with the legacy-ones, sometimes cheats are just plain convenient for story purposes. (But I don’t need to tell you that do I??)
